The instructions for the SoloStar II explicitly state they should cut up fruits and veggies before processing. I found other juicers that didn't require pre-chopping, so I ignored the manual. That was a mistake. The machine worked well at first, but eventually it performed as though it had aged. The juice became chunkier, and eventually the juicing screen broke.
I called customer service to get a new screen. I continued to ignore the manual's instructions, and I was still experiencing fruit and vegetable chunks in my juice. So I decided to actually follow the directions, and lo and behold it works beautifully. Following directions does take a little more time (for example, make sure you cut carrots into half-inch chunks), but the results are very much worth it!
