I wish this dehydrator was available in travel size. I may love snacks too much. :) It doesn't have a timer, and I wish it did. But the temperature controls give me peace of mind. This machine makes healthy, conscious eating easier.

I love the ease and convenience of this dehydrator. I just need it to dehydrate soaked nuts. Soak for 8 hours, then dehydrate for 12 hours. The heat is so low, you don't have to worry about overdrying. To get the most nutrition out of nuts, you need to eat raw, unroasted nuts.... They digest better than roasted and also taste better.

The Excalibur is light for its size. Its essentially the case, the fan inside and the trays. Each tray has a removable and flexible mesh that is easy to clean. The fan is a nice feature. Itallows for heat to be blown across the trays evenly. I have noticed that the lower tray seems to dry slower then the other 3. I recommend rotating the trays about half way through. Rotating just once does the trick for me.

I use this to make beef jerky. I love being able to experiment with my own recipes and make it just the way I want. My friend gave me a recipe at first, and it was good, but I've been able to tweak it just for me. After making a couple of batches and eating my own recipe I decided to try a bag of my favorite brand from the store. After fresh jerky? There's no going back.

I've been drying fruit, veggies, etc. in the oven, so I thought I'd try one of these.

My friend had the 9 try version. For me, that just seemed like way too much. I found this 4 tray instead. I can dry about 2 1/2 pounds at a time, which is perfect. There is no power switch, so just plug it in and it turns on. The temperature dial even shows the type of foods you should be using at each temperature. (ex 155:meat, fish, 125:vegetables) Great if you are not sure what to use. Jerky takes around 6 hours.

I'm really pleased by the purchase of this Excalibur food dehydrator. It works well, and it's practically silent compared to other brands. The trays are easy to work with, especially when making jerky with a jerky gun. It drys the items evenly. (It's important to cut them properly.) Read up on prep work before buying this if you've never dried anything before. A timer helps me make sure everything comes out right. This is a good dehydrator!

I buy my fruits and vegetables on clearance. I take them all home and dehydrate them and that way i get them for a great price. This dehydrator makes drying huge batches easy. And I eat more fruits and vegetables now.

It seems like the temperature dial on this machine works well (155 for beef, 105 for fruit). I've made jerky, dried strawberries, strawberry fruit rollups, and fruit crepes with this machine. One downside --you have to unplug it to turn it off. And it doesn't have a timer. Because I live close to the ocean, the dryimg process is actually two to three times longer than the times given in the directions. But it is low profile and runs quietly, so I can recommend it.

My husband can't stop eating the zucchini chips (and he doesn't like zucchini.) Cherry tomatoes are like candy! The range of temperatures and the guidance on the dial is wonderful. I did have to buy a seperate timer, but I needed a kitchen timer at the time, so it was a non-issue.

The small size is good for our kitchen. If we had more space I would have purchased one with more trays. Easy to clean, easy to store. Nothing in my garden is wasted now.
