We've had the Mix-n-blend II for over a year and it has worked well. We blend smoothies and mix whole wheat bread dough with it and it handles both tasks with ease. I've started to hear a minor rubbing sound on the mixer side and I'm going to contact Blend-tec to find out if that's normal; otherwise it's been a good blender/mixer.

In the ten months that I used the Mix and Blend mixer for kneading bread dough I had two machine failures. The first was when the outer case separated at one of corners near a plastic clip. I was able to repair it with a small screw. The second failure was catastrophic resulting in the total destruction of the flimsy plastic gear case. The failures occurred after letting the dough rest in the bowl and then turning the machine back on. Because I made the first small repair myself the factory refused to honor the 2 year warranty. They told me it could be repaired for $95 or they could dispose of it for me if I wished. I took the second option. If you need a machine to make bread and want to deal with a company that stands behind its products, save money and look elsewhere.

I owned a K-tec mixer for ten years in my B&B and couldn't have been happier. Everything was plastic, but it held up to lots of bread and cakes. Eventually the bowl cracked and the replacement parts had changed so I broke down and ordered a new one. The motor is still good - I'm quite happy with the amount of bread it can make. The new model has an electronic panel that causes me problems. The electronic control has rapidly deteriorated (the timer never worked properly) so that no matter how many buttons I push - it just won't work. I knew that was going to happen as soon as I unpacked it- I've never been a fan of computerized controls in something as simple as a mixer. Would I buy it again? I'd consider it if they replace the controls with something that has the simplicity of an Oster. Three speeds are plenty and less to go wrong.

I have a older k-tec (the name of the company before they changed to 'blend-tec') version of this machine. It looks identical except for a couple of graphics. It is ridiculously noisy. I use it mostly for bread and I've had several parts break over the last few years — including the motor. I bought a old Bosch mixer at a garage sale recently. The Bosch isn't rated as powerful, but it is quieter and it handles the same size batch of bread dough far better.

I purchased the Mix and Blend machine by K-tec over two years ago. I have had at least five replacement machines. I grind my own wheat and bought the machine originally to mix my wheat dough, but these keep breaking. K-tec has been very good about replacing the motor bases, but in the end I had to purchase a more expensive dough maker from another company to solve my problem. Don't buy this machine if you think that you want to mix up wheat dough. The vital components are plastic.
