Easy beef jerky Review by Yvonne

I followed the included instructions so that I could start making my own beef jerky right away, I turned the unit on (at the recommended 160) and walked away. You will hear a slight hum, like a small fan sound. It's not very loud or annoying.

3 hours later I opened the head/motor and discovered beef jerky! Some of the meat slices were a little thicker so I let them dry a little longer.

I'm very pleased with how well this dehydrator works.

This is a good little machine for the money. The Nesco has a fan built into the top that quickly and effectively dries food. I bought a different dehydrator first that had an exposed heating coil at the bottom, and it took forever to dry food (and required rotating trays.) I was worried about the heating element, so got rid of it. After purchasing this one, I feel better about the product and the way the unit dries. I recommend it.

Wonderful fruit rolls Review by Eve

I've used this product for over a week to dry plums and make plum fruit rolls. The result was very good. The Nesco is quiet and efficient. It comes with four trays and one fruit roll sheet. Can't wait to make my own beef jerkies.

We have this running all the time! We constantly have dried strawberries & herbs. We eat zucchini & summer squash dried until crisp to use in place of potato chips! Yum! Ripe bananas with cinnamon sprinkled on them.

The lowest temp. is recommended for herbs. The top heats & blows warm air through the racks. So far this has been very easy to clean. You can use more or less racks depending on your needs. You can even make your own jerky...something we plan to try.

This is Fantastic if you want to cut your food budget & eat healthy! We've been eating a low carb diet with the help of this machine. Don't worry if you don't know where to start. There are lots of deyhdrator cookbooks available!

I originally started out with a Ronco. It only had a heater in the bottom, took forever to dry things and you constantly had to rotate the trays and give them a 1/4 turn to account for the coil position. Pain in the bum... Finally it died and I replaced it with the Nesco. It has been running nonstop for the past three months now! Food dries quickly, evenly and consistently. You do not need to rotate the trays or turn them. Fruit roll-ups come off nicely off the included tray. The fan and heater combo really do a nice job with this unit. It is not very noisy, it just hums steadily. I would highly recommend it!

I love Beef Jerky! I sometimes go thru a bag a day, which can get kinda expensive. Also the store bought stuff is tough sometimes, and different brands vary greatly in quality. Frankly, some are down right awful.

I borrowed a dehydrator from a friend and made 2 batches. The first batch tasted very good, but they came out like little sticks of wood. The 2nd was much much better, but it was a lot of work as the unit had a bottom heating coil, and no fan/force air. I had to turn and rotate and pull meat off at different stages. Still it was a huge success and it let me know that Beef Jerky ala a dehydrator was the answer.

After a few days of research, I settled on this make and model because of the top heat and fan blower feature.

I've spent several days now making about 8 to 10 lbs of Jerky. Mesquite Jerky, Dry Rub Jerky (several of these), Honey Teriyaki Chicken and Beef Jerky, Pepper Jerky, Hawaiian Jerky, etc.

The fan really speeds up the process. 2 lbs of meat fills 3 racks, and is complete in 3-5 hours.

A tip: If you try some liquid smoke a little bit goes a long long way. For marination, add 50% water to cut down on the wet feel of jerky if you like your jerky to be soft and easy to chew.

Absolutely met our expectations! Our old dehydrator used one 100 Watt light bulb and took up to 18 hours for two trays of beef jerky. We can now do twice the amount in 1/3 the time and clean up is easier, too. We are very pleased.

Was looking for a dehydrator to dry my spices, parsley, basil, etc. Bought this based on other reviews and I am not disappointed. Does not come with trays to keep herbs from falling through. Had to purchase those seperately. Comes with 4 trays and 1 tray for making fruit rollups, jerky. Can't wait to try banana chips.

I bought the dehydrator primarily to dry herbs. It took 24 hours to dry my first batch of herbs. I understand it does not take much power, but that is too long for me to run electricity. You had to make sure your scheduled permitted you to be home when it was time to turn off. My herbs were never dry after 24 hours. The herbs did not crumble like they should have. The instructions were not very good. Never mentioned you had to use all the trays. I called Nesco at least three times. I do not recommend this product.
