I got this at the flower and garden show in Chicago. I started a tray of seeds on a heated mat. I started the same seeds in my aroe garden. This light made my plants purplish. It took over a week in the sun to turn the leaves back and my stems are still purple. This didn't make my plants grow any faster than having them in a sunny window. My sister's plants in a sunny window grew faster than mine. The ones in the areo garden grew the fastest. It isnt fair to compare to a watering/ grow light system to a grow light on its own. But my sister's seeds grew faster. I was hoping this light would work, but I was very disappointed.

Stopped working Review by Brad

The bulb worked well for about 3 months, then stopped working altogether. I recommend that you start using yours immediately after receiving it. I made the mistake of waiting several months after purchasing, and the warranty expired before I had used it enough to make it somewhat worth what I paid for it. I'm disappointed in the short life of the bulb -- especially with its claim of many years of use.

I have had this for only three days shining on indoor plants that have been struggling next to a window and it's a complete 360. I have never actually witnessed plant growth so fast before. I keep checking my plants several times a day because I'm excited to see them progress. I have never used grow lights so I don't know what to compare them too. It has a pretty bright purple light which I don't mind.

If this thing lasts even half the 50,000 hour life it claims then it will be well worth it. It's a bit pricy but running at only 12 watts it should pay itself off pretty quickly in energy cost.

Worth the extra money Review by Monique

I have been using the GrowSpots for over a year to grow marigolds, peppers, lettuce, succulents and wheatgrass. They have always worked very well for me. The light output and focus of these new models are are more intense than the previous model. We have the new GrowSpots over ficus and lemon trees and the lemon tree is starting to produce fruit. That has never happened before. I also purchased one of the white GrowSpots and I was blown away at how much light it emitted. I replaced a 90w incadescent bulb and it emits almost 50% more light! It is incredibly bright and the quality of the light was crystal clear. It is like being in daylight. I would strongly recommend a GrowSpot to anyone who needs a plant grow light.

This light is amazing. The whirring sound from the fan it is very quiet and somewhat peaceful. The light is strong. My miniature tree I have going is really drawn to it. I plan to get a few more Banzai trees and a few more of these!

Great for apartments Review by Whitney

I live in an apartment that's shaded all day long by large trees and nearby buildings. While the trees are great for my utility bills, it's not so great for my garden. I love fresh vegetables. Because I'm an apartment dweller, I grow potted bush tomatoes, peppers, alpine strawberries, and herbs indoors.

Before I bought these light bulbs, I was using incandescent plant lights, but I wasn't satisfied with the light output (my tomatoes were leaning more towards yellow). I was also having trouble with scorching on the leaves, and replacement light bulbs cost too much. I did some research and saw that LED lights were all the rage, and the GrowSpot seemed to be the best recommended. The price put me off, but once I did the math (I would recoup my costs in less than a year just subtracting light bulb replacement, and the GrowSpot has a five year warranty). I decided to spring for it.

Now that my plants have been under the lights for a couple of weeks, I can say that the light is much better than the incandescents. My tomatoes are recovering, and my miniature peppers are taking off. Most telling, the pepper that is closest to the light is at least an inch taller than the others.

I knocked off a star from these lights for two reasons. The first is that the lights come equipped with their own miniature fans, which is why they stay cool. The fans aren't loud -- they're quieter than a computer fan -- but if you mind the white noise, they might not be for you. Also, the plants simply don't look as pretty under red and blue lights; their green leaves show up as almost black. In terms of the light, this is a good thing, because it shows that the leaves really are absorbing all of the light pointed at them, but I do miss looking at my pretty green plants.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. I'm sorry that I didn't go for the GrowSpot sooner.

Sad but true...... Review by Lisa

My son passed away at 3 years old in October. During that time I was given so many flowers but plants also. Everyone knows the flowers go sooner than later but the plants meant so much. They started to wither and get really sick...I was lost. A friend suggested the GrowSpot. In memory of my sweet son Damon.....these plants have rebounded and are actually flourishing. I want everyone to know....my plants and my sons memories are well!! Thanks!!
