Excalibur 5-Tray Economy Food Dehydrator ED2500 (White or Black)
- Product Review (submitted on January 15, 2012):
After a lot of research and asking friends a lot of questions, I finally decided that an Excalibur would work best for me. They have built-in timers, a temperature range, and the fan is in the back of the dehydrator instead of at the bottom. I was also very happy to discover that the trays are dishwasher safe.
I have used and used my dehydrator for 6 months. and It's quiet enough that my family often mistakes it for a small fan or the air conditioner. I love the timer. No more hoping a wake up really early enough that our food won't overdry. I have used this for a whole week, 24 hours a day, 7 days in a row, during a busy period and it and worked perfectly. My model came with 2 Paraflexx sheets, though there are times I prefer wax paper or parchment paper.
I have used this to dry raw food recipes. I'm not a raw foodist, but I do enjoy raw food recipes occasionally. I've made fruit leathers, veggie chips, strawberry-banana granola. This dehydrator is also good for reviving stale chips, and produce that is unused and starting bad in the fridge. I've also made yogurt, I've dred sprouted beans and grains... And there are other uses and experiments I'm probably forgetting. I love this thing!
