Seasonal Pie Green Smoothies

Surely you’ve made a pumpkin pie green smoothie by now (if not, check out this recipe!) We loved that creamy, pumpkin-y concoction so much that we figured, why stop there?

Why restrict ourselves to pumpkin pies, when there are so many other deliciously autumnal pie flavors just waiting to be combined with kale? So we scoured the internet for ways to turn our fall favorites (apple and pecan pie) into green smoothies, and wouldn’t you know—it can be done.

Raw apples are full of phytonutrients (that help regulate blood sugar), fiber, and vitamin C. They’re at their peak right now, and good orchards grow an unbelievable variety, from soft and sweet to tart and crisp. Pecans are rich in oleic acid, vitamin E, antioxidants, B-vitamins, minerals, and protein.

Thick, Creamy Apple Pie Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups vanilla-flavored almond milk (or other milk/milk substitute of your choice)
  • 2 apples, cored and sliced
  • 1 frozen banana
  • One or two handfuls of spinach (or other greens)
  • ½ cup dates
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Sprinkle of nutmeg
  • Handful of ice (optional)

Blend all ingredients together till smooth. Top with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon. Makes two servings.

Raw Vegan Pecan Pie Green Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • Several handfuls of kale (or other green)
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • Small handful of pecans
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Several dates

Blend everything together until smooth and thick. Garnish with extra pecans, if desired. Makes one serving.
