Make Your Own Spa Water – At Home!

Make Your Own Spa Water At HomeI recently treated myself to a spa day, and although the word spa conjured up images of restorative baths and table massages, the only feeling I clearly recall is the refreshing deliciousness of the water.

While fruity spa water sipped in the fluffiest of robes may seem like a minute part of the spa experience, spa people may just be on to something.

Water is essential to life as it delivers oxygen to our cells, flushes toxins from our bodies and helps to maintain a healthy weight. So by infusing water with herbs, flowers, and fruits, we supercharge it with vitamins, minerals and restorative antioxidants.

The best thing about spa water, which cannot be said for the treatments, is that we don’t need the spa in order to reap the benefits. Creating your own spa like infusions at home is as easy (if not easier) than making a smoothie!

Staying healthy and hydrated when temperature soars is incredibly important, especially this summer. And by mixing and matching the following ingredients you can create your own spa like experience at home!

The flavors of berries, all of them, are distinct and unique. They are loaded with polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant reported to ward off heart disease and certain cancers. Berries also boost the flavor water naturally.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits are renowned for their immune boosting qualities, and they give your water a healthy dose of vitamin C. So go ahead and add grapefruit, lemon, lime or orange slices.

This is a spa favorite and with good reason. Cucumber is an excellent source of potassium and vitamin K; cucumber is also nearly 75% water.

The reason spas have been using this fragrant herb in their waters is because lavender is synonymous with calm. In Germany this flower is often brewed and served as a tea to treat symptoms of insomnia. Sip lavender water before bed for an all natural sleep enhancer.

Summer is THE time for peaches as this juicy summer fruit adds an intensely sweet flavor to any water concoction. Beta carotene, abundant in peaches, is a powerful antioxidant that helps keep the immune system strong and skin healthy.

There are a few housekeeping tips when it comes to making your own spa water creations.

If using non-organic produce, be sure to peel off the skin when possible. This is to reduce the amount of pesticides your water will contain. And slice fruit so that the juiciest area is exposed to the water- you want to make sure your water is as flavorful as possible. And lastly, allow the water the steep at least 4 hours, which will ensure that it the water and the fruits have plenty of time to mesh and create that amazing aroma found in spas!
