Egg On Your Face - The All-Natural, Egg White FacialIf you’re looking for an all-natural way to improve your complexion, here’s a shocking suggestion: put a raw egg on your face.

Is it slimy? Yes. Cold? Oh, yeah. But once it’s washed off, you’ll notice that your pores are smaller and your skin feels smooth. After a few weeks of regular use, you may notice an improvement in any acne situations you may have, including shrunken pimples and reduced redness.

The humble egg really is one of nature’s superfoods. It’s packed full of vitamins A, D and E, as well as certain B vitamins and selenium, all of which are great for skin.

Eggs also contain the nutrient choline, which helps reduce inflammation (the culprit behind those painful, red pimples).

Who should try the egg-face remedy?

Those with oily skin, a problem with blackheads, and large or clogged pores will benefit most from a mask made entirely of egg whites. Crack open an egg, separate out the whites, and whip them into a light foam. Use your fingers or a makeup brush to spread a thin layer of egg white across your face.

After about 15 minutes, you’ll feel the mask tightening up: time to wash it off. The tightening action shrinks pores and firms your skin, helping get rid of the gunk inside pores. This mask is also great for skin that is aged – it can help tighten up facial skin and minimize the appearance of wrinkles.

If you’ve got sensitive, scar-prone skin, stick to the solo egg yolk, where all the vitamin A and E is located (nutrients that are vital for acne-free skin). A study published in “Clinical and Experimental Dermatology” magazine showed that giving these vitamins to patients helped improve their acne, and when applied topically, the vitamin E was found to have helped reduce or prevent acne scarring.

To take advantage of the nutritionally rich yolk, separate it from the egg whites and massage across your face, leaving it on for 20 to 30 minutes. Be sure to rinse well.

As with all home remedies, you can customize the egg-face remedy to your heart’s content: add a teaspoon each of olive oil, honey and whole milk to your egg yolk for an extra-moisturizing mask. Or boost the pimple-fighting powers of your egg white mask by adding a squeeze of lemon juice, or 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil.
