Cranberry-Parsley Juice for a Healthy Kidney

Cranberry-Parsley Juice for a Healthy KidneyHappy World Kidney Day! (Bet you didn’t even know that was a holiday.) Today, we’re focusing on making your hard-working kidney happy with a detoxifying juice that will keep your urinary tract healthy and your kidney stones at bay.

WebMD describes your kidneys as “sophisticated trash collectors.” These fist-sized organs process about 200 quarts of blood every day (whew!), and the waste/extra water that they filter out becomes urine. Kidneys also measure and release nutrients like potassium, sodium, and phosphorus from your blood to the rest of your body. This is a simplified summary of your kidneys’ job description, but suffice it to say that they’re very important. You need them. So today, throw back a glass of fresh juice in their honor.

Cranberries make your urine more acidic, helping prevent UTIs (which can be dangerous for your kidneys). Parsley is often used as a natural remedy for both UTIs and kidney stones. This juice combines them both in a sweet medley that will have your kidneys (hypothetically) glowing.

Happy Kidney Cranberry-Parsley Juice

1 lemon
1 cup of cranberries (or 1/2 cup cranberry juice)
1 red beet
1 cucumber
1-2 carrots
1 apple
1 bunch of parsley

Run everything through your juicer. If juicing whole cranberries, be careful that they don’t bounce out and hit you. They’re feisty little buggers! If using cranberry juice, you can mix it in after you finish juicing.  And spring for the real cranberry juice, not some sugary cranberry blend. Your kidneys are worth it!
