Do You Grind Your Teeth?

0 by / on April 3, 2009, 8:36 am

If you are a teeth clincher or a grinder, listen up.  If you don’t have some sort of jaw problem like TMJ (temporomandibular joint syndrome)yet, great.  Hopefully some of these ideas will stop you from wearing away tooth enamel, increasing your teeth’s sensitivity, causing loose teeth, morning headaches, sore jaw muscles and painful chewing.  My experience? I’ve had it all.  When I was in my teens, my jaw started popping and clicking.  Eventually I was evaluated by a dentist and I started wearing a night guard. I’m sure it protected my teeth, but it also made me clench harder.  Eliminating or avoiding [...]

Canker sores are small surface abrasions found on the inside of the mouth that can occur several times a year. They come and go within a week or so, on average. Move It Along Folks…Natural Alternatives For Constipation

0 by / on March 22, 2009, 10:08 am

I know…it’s hard to talk about, but it’s actually one of my favorite subjects.  Poop and the inability to poop.  Let’s face it guys, EVERYONE POOPS!  Whether it’s infrequent or difficult to pass, in order for your body to eliminate waste materials (that which it does not need), you must have a regular bowel movement.  One to three bowel movements a day is normal.  If that is just not happening for you….then let’s talk about getting things moving and why they don’t move. Food sitting too long in the stomach and moving too slowly through the large bowel are the [...]

Alternative Treatments For Heartburn

0 by / on March 19, 2009, 6:08 pm

Do you get a burning sensation in your stomach before or after eating? Tried everything and still can’t stop the pain of heartburn or “acid stomach”? According to James Balch, M.D. in his book Prescription For Nutritional Healing ,“….heartburn often occurs when hydrochloric acid, which is used by the stomach for digestion, backs up into the esophagus.” It causes a backflow through the sphincter (ring of muscle) separating the stomach from the esophagus. If this muscle isn’t closing after food flows through, gastro esophageal reflux, or heartburn as you and I know it, can occur. Heartburn can also be caused [...]

We’ve All Been Touched By Cancer..Somehow

0 by / on February 12, 2009, 9:52 am

In my family, it’s an aunt and an uncle.  My friends?  Many….too many.  I had my own scare once, many years ago.  Fortunately turned out to be nothing.  But not to me.  It set me on a quest to figure out what I was missing, emotionally and physically.  What else do I need to do to strengthen my body and mind? I attended a movie last night, “Healing Cancer From Inside Out”. The first part is about the numbers, the money and the ego involved with the “curing” of cancer.  The second part is the “healing” of cancer.  The presenter [...]

Staples To Have On Hand For Your Living(Raw)Food Lifestyle

0 by / on February 5, 2009, 10:41 am

Staple, a basic dietary item.  In my life, it’s not flour, rice or corn, it’s almonds, dates, a sprout bag (ok, that’s not food) and some sort of frozen fruit.  As long as I have these few items, I can eat for a day or more.   Of course, I have more than that in my kitchen, but I always have these items on hand and here are some great recipes for you to make with these items.  Nut Milk –Two cups water in your blender—-I use the Vitamix.  The BlendTec works well also.   I like my pulp as smooth as I can [...]

Feelings And What They Have To Do With Eating

0 by / on January 29, 2009, 9:04 am

No doubt about it….feeling your feelings is a big part of getting healthy.  Healthy in the physical and healthy in the spiritual sense.  My saying is “Just Feel It”.  When I was young I stopped eating to get attention.  When I didn’t get the attention, I overate.   Then I just got lost in a sea of eating, not eating, stuffing emotions and denying emotions.  There is a difference between stuffing and denying your emotions.  Good luck figuring that one out.  Experiencing my divorce over 15 year ago, was when I could officially say I realized I hadn’t been feeling anything.  [...]

Just Because It’s Easy…Doesn’t Mean It’s Better

It’s certainly easier to go for fast food, already cut up, already washed items while you’re grocery shopping or looking for that quick lunch idea……BUT…. is that really the healthier choice? Let’s start with baby carrots.  In whole carrots, most of the nutrition is contained in or just below the skin.  In order to make baby carrots, this healthy portion is removed.   Then the carrots are washed in chlorinated water and some are even dipped in a stronger chlorine solution to keep their looks once in your local store.  If you believe labels,  “baby carrots” are carrots harvested while the vegetables [...]

Choices about what we eat….

0 by / on December 13, 2008, 9:50 pm

We make many choices in the course of our lives.   When I decided to get pregnant, I made the choice to become a vegetarian.  I thought that was the right choice for my baby.  It turned out to also be the right choice for me.  My daughter was born 18 years ago.  At that time there weren’t a lot of choices or places to turn that supported my beliefs.   I didn’t want to give her dairy and I didn’t want to give her meat.  I’ll never forget at each visit to the pediatrician when the doctor would ask her if she was [...]

Eating Right – “Have yourself a healthy little Christmas …”

0 by / on December 13, 2008, 8:23 am

Some alternate titles I was working with were, All I want for Christmas is to stay on track, It’s the most fattening time of the year, and Everyone was singing “Here Comes Santa Claus” but it was only me.” Being raised Jewish I’d like to say I never fall into the “throw my healthy-living diet out the window during the holidays” trap but alas, even I tend to indulge a bit this time of year.  So I want the first tip to be; GO EASY ON YOURSELF!  I can’t stress enough that the best gift we can give ourselves over [...]
