Kombucha…ever heard of it? Most people haven’t but I believe this is about to change. This potent liver elixir is said to detoxify the body from the liver out, and since they say that a healthy liver equates to a healthy body, I’m inclined to believe the hype.
A little bit of back story on Kombucha. Kombucha is a fermented tea that finds it roots in ancient Eastern culture; they believed that Kombucha improved digestion, cleansed the liver and improved skin and nails on a cellular level.
But there is more to this drink than ancient lore – Kombucha has been proven to naturally contain probiotics, polyphenols, key amino acids, gluconic & glucuronic acids, which are both well known liver rejuvenators!
How does kombachua do all of that?
The merits of kombucha can be chalked up to the fact that it is a fermented, living food. Now, living foods are superior to non-living foods, because the enzymes and nutrients are still alive and therefore retain all of their healing properties. Fermented foods contain natural probiotics which work to keep our guts healthy and everything moving.
Kombucha is also naturally effervescent, so for those that have a soda tooth, kombucha may be just what they need to wean off the sugary drinks. And, due to its effervescent nature, kombucha lends itself quite nicely to festive holiday wine spritzers!
Kombucha should be in your fridge over the next six weeks, as we are all surely to dine on rich, heavy meals in the name of yuletide spirit.
This smoothie features kombucha, but to take the health promoting properties even further, I added blueberries and green powder. If you want an antioxidant kick, THIS my friends, is IT.
